E Hirajoshi

E · F♯ · G · B · C
One of the best-known Japanese pentatonics, E Hirajoshi uses the root, second, minor third, fifth, and flat sixth. The gap between the flat sixth and the root, and the semitone in the middle, give it a spare, contemplative sound. A favourite of guitarists looking for something exotic that's still only five notes to learn.
