The augmented scale alternates minor thirds and semitones for six notes, so C Augmented is symmetrical and repeats every major third. It outlines two augmented triads a semitone apart, which is why it sounds so unmoored. Jazz and fusion players use its symmetry to build sequences that shift effortlessly through distant keys.
