A Vietnamese 1

A · C · D · E · F
Built from the root, minor third, fourth, fifth, and flat sixth, A Vietnamese 1 is a minor pentatonic with the flat sixth in place of the flat seventh. Swapping that one note gives it a heavier, more plaintive quality than the familiar minor pentatonic. A useful variation when standard pentatonic lines feel worn out.
