A Lydian Diminished pairs a minor third with a raised fourth and a major seventh, combining Lydian brightness with minor-key darkness. The result is unstable in an interesting way, and it works over minor-major harmony where a plain minor scale would sound too ordinary. A modern jazz and film-scoring colour.
